Hafren is the interdisciplinary artistic world of Welsh guitarist-composer Chris Roberts.
Drawing from the musical heritage of Cardiff and the Vale of Glamorgan, Hafren (Chris Roberts) reinterprets local tunes and songs with his guitar and voice. The programme also features the crwth, a medieval Welsh bowed lyre, bringing its ancient sound into a contemporary setting. Blending folk, classical, and contemporary influences, Hafren connects local traditions with a wider intercultural landscape.
Chris is a socially engaged musician whose radical ideas “have taken sustainable touring to the next level” (BBC News). He has performed live on BBC Radio 3 twice, played Glastonbury three times, and walked the entire Wales Coast Path as a bold experiment in low-carbon touring. He regularly tours with artists such as Tanita Tikaram, Cynefin, and his duo, Filkin’s Drift.
